TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold announced their award winners from the 2024-25 season on Thursday, with basketball players Kaillie Hall and Aaron Rhooms taking home athlete of the year honours.
H.H. Kerr Female Athlete of the Year – Kaillie Hall, Basketball
Kaillie Hall averaged 16.5 points per game to rank fifth in the OUA and set a new career high with 364 total points. She scored in double figures in all but one game this season, but also got it done on the defensive end. Hall averaged two steals per game and was often tasked with defending the opponent's best guard. The OUA First-Team All-Star helped the Bold return to the OUA semifinal for the second straight season.
On the Record Male Athlete of the Year – Aaron Rhooms, Basketball
Senior guard Aaron Rhooms had an historic season for the Bold, becoming the first TMU men's basketball player to earn the OUA Player of the Year award. Rhooms led the conference in scoring, averaging 22 points per game, and scored 43 points for the highest single-game total in the league this season. He scored in double figures in every game and was also impressive on the glass, averaging 6.7 rebounds to finish top-10 in the league. The OUA First-Team All-Star and U SPORTS First-Team All-Canadian helped the Bold reach the OUA semifinal this season.
TMSU Female Rookie of the Year – Natalie Moynihan, Soccer
Midfielder Natalie Moynihan burst onto the OUA soccer scene earning herself Second-Team All-Star status in her first season with the Bold. Moynihan played a key role in the Bold offence, taking free kicks and distributing the ball to her teammates for scoring opportunities. Moynihan registered one goal while helping the team tie its single-season wins record.
Eyeopener Male Rookie of the Year – Jordan D'Intino, Hockey
Jordan D'Intino found his name on the scoresheet regularly throughout his first season with the Bold men's hockey team. The first year forward recorded 21 points in 27 regular season games and added four points in the team's playoff run that saw them win the OUA silver medal and qualify for the national championship. D'Intino was named an OUA West All-Rookie Team member and finished fifth in team scoring.
G.L. Dobson Female Community Contribution – Emily Baxter, Hockey
Fifth year captain of the women's hockey team, Emily Baxter volunteered regularly this year with Hockey 4 Youth, introducing new immigrants to the game of hockey and teaching them how to skate and play the sport. She also spent time at the Boys & Girls Club of Toronto while also leading team initiatives like the annual Do It For Daron game which fundraises for youth mental health. Baxter was also a key contributor in showcasing the program, volunteering at a school pizza party visit.
D.H. Craighead Male Community Contribution – Lucas Yang, Volleyball
Fourth year volleyball player Lucas Yang was an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council this season - his fourth year as part of the SAAC leadership - leading the Battle of the Bold program and organizing various workshops for student-athletes. Yang is also in his second year as a student academic mentor, helping fellow student-athletes adjust to their studies and encouraging smart study habits.
Outstanding Performance in Club Sport – Dechlan Papadopoulos, Wrestling
Dechlan Papadopoulos, a third-year member of the TMU Bold Wrestling Team, was a U SPORTS Second-Team All-Canadian, U SPORTS and OUA silver medalist in the 65 kg division, and he won Gold at both the Pat Bolger Open and Western Open.
