NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's volleyball team lost 3-1 to the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday afternoon.
The Bold came out strong in the first set, hitting an impressive .407 attack percentage while limiting errors to secure a 25-22 win. However, Nipissing responded in the second set, capitalizing on key moments to even the match with a 25-21 victory.
Despite strong performances from
Darcie Buchanan (10 kills) and
Hannah Bellai (9 kills), TMU struggled to maintain momentum in the third set. The Lakers' offensive duo of Paige Owen (22 kills) and Anna Marie Horvat (20 kills) proved too much for the Bold defence, leading Nipissing to a 25-22 set win.
In the final frame, Nipissing dominated, holding TMU to a negative hitting percentage (-.032) while closing out the match with a decisive 25-14 victory.
Setter
Jasmine Safar dished out 33 assists for TMU, while libero
Mary Rioflorido anchored the defence with nine digs.
Kylie Ferguson also had a strong showing with nine kills and three blocks.
Next up for the Bold is a matchup against the Waterloo Warriors on Friday, Feb. 7. First serve flies from 6 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. TMU students can attend for free with their OneCard.
