OTTAWA — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's soccer team dropped their final game of the season by a score of 6-0 to the Carleton Ravens on Friday.
While TMU would have preferred a victory to extend its season-high undefeated streak to four games, the match was ultimately another opportunity to prepare for the playoffs.
With the Bold (5-5-2) winning its prior game against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Oct. 6, the team had already clinched the final playoff spot in the East division.
Leading into the match, Bold head coach
John Yacou and his staff also had to navigate which cards they wanted to keep close to their chest. With the Ravens as a potential opponent in the first round of the post-season, it was a chance for the Bold to experiment and distribute playing time throughout the roster.
Four of TMU's top goal scorers were listed as substitutes, allowing other players on the roster to get valuable experience against a playoff-calibre roster.
Ravens forward Lauren Illman finished with the hat-trick. The fourth-year scored her first goal of the night five minutes into the match, after beating a TMU defender to the ball before lofting it over the Bold goalkeeper
Kyra Pettibone from 25-yards out.
This was Carleton's first game in 13 days.
As the No. 6 seed, the Bold will have to wait until the final slate of games on Oct. 12 to find out who their first-round opponent will be. The opening round of the playoffs begins on Oct. 15 live on OUA.tv.
