OSHAWA, Ont. – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team took on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in their annual Carriage Cup game at the Tribute Communities Centre (TCC) and captured a 3-1 victory.
The Bold entered the contest ranked 10th in the country and first in the west division and hoped to continue their hot start to 2025 after two wins to open the year.
Right away the Ridgebacks tried to push past the Bold but were no match for
Jackson Doherty who ripped the puck into the back of the net.Â
The rest of the period was aggressive but no more goals were scored and the two teams headed into the first intermission with the Bold up 1-0.Â
The second period was not as good for the Bold as the Ridgebacks managed to tie the game up halfway through the second.Â
The Bold tried to break the tie but left the ice in the second with a big job to complete in the third.Â
In the third period, the Bold came out fast and didn't let the Ridgebacks make any sort of improvement.Â
Daniil Grigorev sniped the puck from the back door on a power play to give the Bold a 2-1 lead. From there, the Bold had to focus on holding the lead until the time ran out.Â
The Ridgebacks did what they could by pulling their goalie, but they could not best Bold netminder
Ryan Dugas, who was a brick wall in front of the net and ended the night with 27 saves.Â
Will Portokalis snatched the puck away and netted an empty netter for the final goal of the game.
The Bold ended the night with a 3-1 win and got to lift the Carriage Cup at the TCC. The Bold will be back on home ice this Saturday at 1:15 to face the Varsity Blues. TMU students can attend for free with their one card.
