Bold erase two goal deficit to sweep weekend series with Ridgebacks

OSHAWA, Ont. - The TMU women's hockey team is on a roll. A day after beating Ontario Tech on the road, the Bold would hand the Ridgebacks another loss, this time by a score of 3-2. In goal for the Bold was Alexia Stratos, making her first start of the season.

The start of the first period was a continuation of the Bold's strong performance yesterday. TMU, who rode special teams to their 2-0 win on Friday, earned an early pair of power play opportunities but were unable to capitalize.

The Ridgebacks would eventually break the deadlock with just over five minutes to play in the first, despite a large portion of play being within the Ontario Tech end. The Ridgebacks would double their lead just minutes later via a deke on a partial-breakaway that found its way past Stratos.

The Bold would quickly change the complexion of the game, striking twice within five minutes. The first would come after a penalty kill, as Neely Van Volsen would receive an Emily Baxter pass and place a perfect shot past the Ridgebacks goaltender. Just minutes later, Kayla Kondo would level the score on a rebound from a Gaby Gareau shot.

The goals opened up the game. Following a steady opening where teams were content to limit mistakes, the second period saw a much more back and forth flow. The teams would trade special teams chances, giving both an opportunity to grab a lead before the break. However, goaltending would come up big for both sides, setting up a good finish to the team's weekend set.

Chances would be limited in the early stages of the third as the teams began a feeling-out process, careful not to make mistakes. The teams were effective at slowing each other down through the neutral zone, limiting high danger chances.

Halfway through the period Cailey Davis would tip a Payton Kerr point shot, for her fifth of the season, giving the Bold their first lead of the contest with 12:54 remaining. Just moments later, however, the Bold would take another penalty, their seventh of the contest. Despite the constant barrage, the penalty kill was again sensational, going perfect on the afternoon.

Ontario Tech, desperate for an equalizer, began taking more chances. The final ten minutes of the contest was dominated by long end to end rushes. Each rush by Ontario Tech was matched by one with the Bold, and vice versa. Despite the high-octane play, the Bold were able to weather the storm, securing their fifth victory with a 3-2 final score.

The Bold are back in action on home ice Thursday against York.
