Krahn, Lonardi Power Bold to Weekend Sweep over Trent

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Kaiya Krahn matched her season-high of eight kills to help secure the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's volleyball squad a second sweep in as many days over the Trent Excalibur and improve the blue and gold's record to 2-2 in the early goings of the season.

Jia Lonardi, Scarlett Gingera and Darcie Buchanan rounded out the Bold's offense in their 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-12) drubbing at the Excalibur Athletic Centre on Sunday, chipping in seven, six and five kills respectively while coasting to victory.

Jasmine Safar also dazzled for the Bold in the lopsided win, finding her teammates all around the court for a season-high 26 assists.

Krahn provided the Bold with an early spark in the first set, knocking down a trio of kills to propel the visitor's to take a commanding 10-2 lead off the hop.

The second-year outside hitter has played a lively role in TMU's attack through four games this season, averaging two kills per set and constantly plugging herself into the thick of her team's offensive runs.

Her tenacity, as well as a team-wide 46.7 hitting percentage throughout the first frame, helped throw the Bold into a 1-0 lead over the Excalibur on Sunday.

The Bold caught a bit of a snag in the early goings of the second set, trailing the Excalibur 5-2. Despite converting on 3.8 percent of their attacks in the second set, a far cry from their dominance with the ball out of the gates, the group rallied to land a 25-19 win.

TMU were able to bury the home side with little difficulty in the third, grabbing a 10-2 lead and failing to look back while holding Trent to a weekend-low of 12 points.

Buchanan led the late charge for the Bold, littering the Excalibur floor with five kills and a service ace to seal the deal on a much-needed weekend sweep ahead of her side's home debut next week.

The Bold will welcome the University of Ottawa Gee Gees for a two-game series set to commence on Thursday.

First serve from the Mattamy Athletic Centre flies at 6 p.m.
