WINDSOR, Ont. – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team are on the road this weekend, starting with a showdown against the Windsor Lancers on Friday night.
This weekend is a memorable one for Captain
Emily Baxter, who in the game against Windsor, played her 100th career regular-season game as a Bold
Friday's game was an intense affair with the Bold securing a 4-3 win after outscoring the Lancers 2-1 in the shootout.
The Lancers came out fighting and netted their first goal of the night 20 seconds into the game.
The Bold managed to hold off the Lancers for the majority of the first period.
Britni Yammine found the back of the net through traffic and scored her first goal of the season.
The Bold went into the first intermission with a score of 1-1 and hoped to take the lead in the second.
In the second half, both teams passed the puck up and down the ice, which led to a quick goal by the Lancers in the 15th minute.
Baxter made sure the Bold weren't down for long and fired back instantly tying it up at two, and recording her 54th career point.
TMU was not satisfied with the tie, and
Eden Dusome raced off the faceoff and scored the third goal of the game and her first of the season.
The Bold fought off the Lancers in the second, including one penalty kill, and stayed in the lead until the second intermission, 3-2.
Going into the third, the Bold battled hard to keep the Lancers within one.
A late goal by the Lancers tied the back-and-forth game for the third time.
After time winded down, the Bold and Lancers faced off in overtime, but neither were successful in taking the win.
Later, it was all down to the shootouts, and the Bold came out victorious.
After a goal from
Mia Morano and Baxter, and two big saves from goaltender
Alexia Stratos, the Bold won the intense matchup.
