TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team prevailed with a 5-2 win over the No. 3 ranked UQTR Patriotes on Saturday evening.
Kevin Gursoy scored twice and
Kai Edmonds made 28 saves.
Edmonds performance earned praise from head coach
Johnny Duco.
"He's looked real sharp in practice," said Duco. "He's able to carry it into the games. He's obviously the backbone of our team."
The Bold killed off a powerplay in the first and the score was kept at 0-0.Â
In the second period, the Bold were on a roll.Â
Gursoy fired the puck into the back of the net, putting the Bold up one.Â
30 seconds later, Gursoy netted another powerplay goal.Â
"On the power play there, I think we kind of ticked it around and finally got some good movement," said Gursoy.
UQTR returned fire and got one past Edmonds, which didn't slow the Bold down.
The Bold got on the attack and Jordan D'intino scored his first of the season as a Bold.
Going into the second intermission the Bold were up 3-1 and worked hard to keep the Patriotes away from their net.
The third period was all about defence. The Bold did a solid job of shutting down any chances.Â
Tyler Savard neted an empty netter near the end after UQTR pulled their goalie.Â
UQTR managed to score one more goal, but it was too late.
Jackson Doherty sent the puck down the ice into an empty net, bringing the total to 5-2.
"I don't think we've beat them [UQTR] since I've been here. So to get that win today was definitely a big one,' said Gursoy.
The Bold will be back at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Wednesday, Nov. 20 for Decade Night against the Western Mustangs. Students get in free to all TMU home games with their OneCard.Â
