The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team pushed their first overtime game against the Windsor Lancers, but left the ice defeated.
Nonetheless, the game was dynamic, one that the viewers could not take their eyes off of.
TMU's
Connor Bowie and captain
Chris Playfair were two key players in the game, with Playfair averaging two assists. Their first assist was to
Kevin Gursoy, who scored the only goal of the first period off a Bold power play.
The Bold were fired up going into the second, but the Lancers weren't ready to give up. The home team whipped a pair of shots past Bold goalkeeper
Kai Edmonds to take on the second period lead.
Gursoy scored his second goal of the game a minute and a half into the middle stanza after the Lancers thought they had a lead. This became Gursoy's 12th goal of the season.
A tie was brewing for both teams, waiting to see which one could come out victorious,
Playfair paired with teammate
Ryan Wells to give
Cole Resnick his first goal of the game near the halfway mark, pushing the Bold to a 3-2 lead.
The second period ended with another deadlock, with the Lancers netting a powerplay equalizer with two minutes to go.
In the fifth minute of play in the third period, the Bold thought they had it when Wells managed to score a fourth goal off another power play.
What TMU didn't expect was that it would end up being their last chance of sneaking the puck into the opposing goal for the game.
With a lot of back-and-forth action, a brawl broke out between TMU's
Elijah Roberts and Lancers' Dylan Schives. The Lancers made a comeback in the 13th minute, creating little room for the Bold to surpass.
Pushing the game into overtime, the first time for the Bold this season, the nail biting game was far from over.
With both teams eager to score, the Bold brought on Playfair, Wells, and Kyle Bollers for a three-on-three overtime matchup.
The trio worked swiftly together, but it was the Lancers who came out victorious, scoring near the end of the overtime period to take the contest.
An unfortunate ending to the exciting game, the team takes on the McGill Redbirds on Mattamy home ice next as they look to reclaim their winning streak.
