Bold fall to Badgers in afternoon affair

The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team fell 5-1 to the Brock Badgers on Friday afternoon despite outshooting the home side 31-25.

Jenna Duarte led the attack for Brock with a pair of goals and an assist, while Madison Cronkwight chipped in two points of her own in the Badgers' third-straight victory over the Bold.

Brooke Michaud scored the lonesome tally for TMU in the defeat, connecting with Emma Macgregor for her second goal of the season.

The visitors peppered Brock's netminder with 16 shots over the course of the first period, one of which being a lucrative breakaway rush that would be sent inches wide of the goal from the stick of Tori Butler late in the frame.

Despite TMU's dominant start to the game, the Badgers found a way to capitalize on their few opportunities in the period to grab the early edge. Madeline Nicholson connected with the tape of a streaking Duarte midway through the frame to spring the latter on a one-on-one rush with TMU's goaltender.

With the Bold defense nipping at her heels, Duarte swished the puck between her forehand and backhand before tucking her second tally of the season just inside the right post.

The sophomore continued to cause chaos within the Bold's crease throughout the second period as well, sending a crisp pass across the width of TMU's paint to pick up her second point of the afternoon.

Brock's Allison Stevenson would be credited with her side's second tally of the match, shoveling her shot into the back of the Bold's cage to drift further apart from the blue and gold.

The Badgers would add another in the dying minutes of the second period as well, securing a power-play marker to pull the game well outside of TMU's reach. Michaud's third-period tally briefly brought the Bold within striking distance of the Badgers in the opening minutes of the final frame, but the flying offense of the home side swiftly clapped back with two-unanswered goals to secure the win.

The Bold will look to get back in the win column tomorrow afternoon as they get set to battle it out with the Western Mustangs on home soil. Puck drop from the MAC is set for 4:15 p.m.
