Rams shutout in hard fought effort at Ontario Tech

Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. - Despite outshooting Ontario Tech 37-24, the Rams failed to pot a goal against their divisional rival and fell 1-0 on Friday night.

The playoff pursuit has only intensified for the Rams as they host Ontario Tech for a rematch Saturday afternoon at 3:15 p.m.

A quiet first period was opened up by Ontario Tech as the Rams' penalty kill continued to slump. On the Ridgebacks' first power play, defender Nicole Escano slung it by a screened Rachel Seeley from the point to make it 1-0.

Chances from the likes of Tori Butler and Emily Baxter went awry as the Rams headed back to the visitor locker room in Oshawa down by a goal.

A fierce attack by the Rams in the second saw them outshoot the Ridgebacks. Olivia Giardetti had a strong chance after gliding through the slot, but the Rams failed to break Zoe McGee's shutout after forty.

In the third, Ontario Tech collapsed towards McGee's crease in a defensive effort. Though the Rams hounded them with possession, clogged lanes kept them from generating any intense looks at goal.

With under two minutes to go, the Rams pinned the Ridgebacks in their zone. After a timeout by head coach Lisa Haley, Seeley was pulled for an extra attacker. Giardetti snapped a shot from a sharp angle, but McGee smothered it as the clock ticked to zero and the Rams were shutout 1-0.

Suffering from a two-game losing skid, the Rams' Senior Day game tomorrow will determine their standing come the end of the regular season.
