Rams still searching for first win after loss to No. 3 Blues

TORONTO - The Rams women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 game on the road to the No. 3 Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday night (13-25, 16-25, 15-25) in pursuit of their first win of the season.

Blues outside hitters Julia Murmann - the second-highest kills per set leader in the OUA - and Hope Kotun each had game-highs of eight kills, while outside hitter Samantha Cyrille led the Rams with five.

Despite a strong start in the first set, taking the lead at 5-4 thanks to a kill by Cyrille - who is playing the outside hitter position in 2022 after years as a libero - the Rams could not find their footing afterwards and dropped the set 25-13.
The Rams did not allow the Blues offence to convert as often as they normally do in the first set, with Toronto running one of the top offences in the nation this season, but the Rams were troubled with unforced errors, including seven attack errors and five from the service line.

The second set saw a higher level of volleyball from both teams, with Toronto and the Rams exchanging kills and hitting more efficiently. Unfortunately for the Rams, the Blues caught fire and tallied 16 kills with outside hitter Hope Kotun leading the charge.
The Rams displayed stronger defence in the third set, tallying two blocks and coming up with a series of digs much thanks to libero Mary Ann Rioflorido. The Blues matched the Rams however, and were able to convert their defence into well constructed offensive plays and punished the blue and gold, taking the final set 25-15.

The Rams and Blues are back at it on Saturday, February 19 at 6 p.m. for a rematch at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
