Despite tight sets, Rams fall 3-0 to Lions away from home

TORONTO - In their return to the court since winter break, the Rams women's volleyball team sought out their first win of the season but were unable to deliver Friday night against the York Lions. After a tight game with the Lions - now tied for first place in the league - the Rams took the 3-0 loss at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

The first set had the Rams looking composed on their side of the net, with consistent kills coming from Mikayla Sherriffs. Scoring switched back and forth in lengthy rallies, but the Lions ended the set in a close 25-21 score.

Going into the second, the team seemed to have lost some steam. While attack errors and bad sets cost the Rams points, middle Ashley Ditchfield and libero Mary Ann Rioflorido contributed in keeping the score tight. After a tougher set, the Lions dominated 25-19.

The Rams came back hungrier in the third set, leading and giving way for a comeback. York was able to recover at the 12-point mark, and they took the lead once more. While the team stayed persistent and rallied hard to stay alive, going neck and neck with the Lions, the opponent ultimately closed the game off 25-23.

The series isn't over, however. Game two of the weekend doubleheader is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, and the Rams will be looking to even the series on home court. You can tune in live at OUA.tv.
