TORONTO - Bold men's hockey players
Kyle Bollers and
Kai Edmonds have been named to Team Canada for the upcoming 2023 Winter Universiade to be held in Lake Placid, N.Y. in January.
U SPORTS announced on Wednesday the 23 student-athletes who will wear the Maple Leaf as Canada chases gold. At the last FISU Winter Universiade, Canada earned a bronze medal.
Bollers and Edmonds are the first Bold athletes to represent Canada on the FISU stage since the 2019 Games. Erika Crouse was named to the 2021 women's hockey roster, but those Games were ultimately cancelled due to the pandemic.
Bollers currently leads all U SPORTS players with 27 points in 16 games so far this season, while Edmonds has posted an impressive 10-1 record to start the season. His 10 wins rank third in U SPORTS and first in the OUA.
The 31st edition of the Games is set for January 11-22, with the men's hockey event running from January 12-22. The preliminary round will be played in Canton, N.Y. before move to Lake Placid's historic Olympic Center 1980 Rink for the medal round.
Team Canada will open its tournament on Thursday, January 12th at 1:00 p.m. EST against Ukraine.
