Rams add Feser and Shields to roster for 2020-21 season

TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams men's hockey team continues to build its 2020-21 recruiting class with the addition of forward Scott Feser and goaltender Mack Shields to the roster.

Feser and Shields, who spent the past four seasons with the York University Lions, will be enrolled in the Ted Rogers MBA program at Ryerson's Ted Rogers School of Management.

"As a coaching staff, we feel that Scott and Mack will have a positive impact on our program and we are excited to integrate them with our group," said Rams head coach Johnny Duco. "They come to Ryerson with an immense amount of experience and success at the U SPORTS level, something we will certainly look to tap into as we continue to push our program forward."

A Red Deer, Alberta native, Feser was the Lions captain, leading scorer and most outstanding player the past two seasons. He was named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) West division most sportsmanlike player as well as an OUA West second-team all-star in 2018-19. A three-time U SPORTS academic all-Canadian, Feser was a member of York's 2017 Queen's Cup OUA championship team.

"This allows me to continue pursuing both my academic and athletic goals," said Feser. "I'm extremely excited to join a first class hockey program while studying for my MBA."

Prior to his time at York, Feser spent five seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Red Deer Rebels and Swift Current Broncos. He registered 105 points (44 goals, 61 assists) in 230 career WHL games and was an assistant captain with Swift Current in 2015-16.

Shields made an immediate impact with the Lions during his rookie season in 2016-17. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native was named OUA West rookie of the year, an OUA West first-team all-star and to the OUA West all-rookie team. He also earned second team U SPORTS all-Canadian honours and a spot on the U SPORTS all-rookie team after backstopping York to the Queen's Cup OUA championship. He also earned U SPORTS academic all-Canadian honours.

Shields was an OUA West second-team all-star in 2017-18 and was named to the U SPORTS all-star roster for the two-game series against Team Canada's World Junior prospects in December of 2018.

"It is a great opportunity to attend an outstanding business school and obtain my MBA," said Shields. "The Ryerson hockey program is highly respected in the OUA and is always one of the favourites to contend for the league championship."

Before his time at York,  Shields spent four seasons in the WHL with the Calgary Hitmen, Prince George Cougars and Medicine Hat Tigers. He was the recipient of the Humanitarian Award with the Hitmen in 2014 as well as the Fan Favourite Award in 2015.
