Rams prepare to host York in Saturday matinee

TORONTO  — The No. 2 Ryerson Rams are getting set to host the York Lions in a one-and-done weekend matchup at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Saturday afternoon in Toronto.

The Rams are coming off another pair of back-to-back wins against two OUA East opponents last weekend. Friday night brought the Rams a 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13) win over the Nipissing Lakers on home court, going on to sweep the Trent Excalibur (28-26, 25-23, 25-15) in Peterborough the following evening.  Lindsay Kleuskens (London, Ont.) had two stand out performances on the weekend, totaling nine kills and four service aces against Nipissing and leading the team's efforts with 11 kills against Trent.

Ryerson's season-long success is well documented in their statistics column; the team currently leads the OUA in kills per set (12.00), digs per set (15.57) and assists per set (11.23). Fifth-year senior Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) leads the league with 271 digs, while teammate Samantha Cyrille (Scarborough, Ont.) ranks third with 4.02 digs per set. On the attacking side, second-year setter Lauren Wong (Scarborough, Ont.) clocks in at fourth in the league in assists per set (8.63) while team captain Cailin Wark (Georgetown, Ont.) ranks third in hitting percentage (.306) and fifth in kills per set (3.30).

Ryerson's star-studded lineup is set to return to action this weekend against York, gunning for their eighth straight victory in their second last regular season match of the year.

Saturday's early afternoon matchup pins the Rams up against the streaking Lions. York currently ranks fourth in the OUA East with a 9-7 record on the year, already having clinched a playoff position amidst their second semester hot streak. Most recently, the Lions suffered a 3-1 (25-21, 25-11, 21-25, 25-16) loss to the No. 3 Toronto Varsity Blues on February 7; otherwise, the team has won four of their last five contests and ranks within the league's top five in nearly every statistic, including kills per set (11.59), assists per set (11.20), hitting percentage (.196), blocks per set (2.02), and total points (1032.0).

The last time these two teams met back in October, the Rams earned a 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 27-25) win on York's home court. The team will seek out similar results this time around as they aim to round out their season series against their Toronto rivals with a pair of wins.

First serve flies at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon on the Coca-Cola Court in Toronto. Catch all the action live on OUA.tv
