Morano nets shootout winner for big two points

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Ryerson forward Mia Morano (Toronto) scored the game's only shootout goal to lift the Rams to a 2-1 victory over the Brock Badgers on Saturday night.

Morano's goal saw her make a pair of moves to deke out the goaltender before tucking the puck home. Rams goalie Rachel Seeley (Ottawa, Ont.) turned away all three Brock shooters, including a poke-check on the final shooter to prevent a shot, to help secure the win for the Rams.

The game was scoreless through two periods of play before the Badgers got on the board first. Kiana Tobia scored her first of the season to give Brock the lead but Ryerson responded with a Lauren Nicholson (Dresden, Ont.) power play goal to tie the game at 1-1.

Ryerson outshot Brock 39-27 in the 67 minute affair, and the Rams penalty kill unit went 5-for-5 while the power play converted on 1-of-7 opportunities.

The Rams picked up an important two points in the standings as they are now tied for seventh in the OUA standings and just one point ahead of ninth place.

Ryerson returns to the ice on Friday, February 7 for Blue & Gold night when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs. Puck drop is set for 7:15 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
