TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams women's volleyball team returns home to the Mattamy Athletic Centre to host the RMC Paladins this weekend after a four-game road trip that tested their unbeaten record.
The Rams, newly voted the No. 1 team in U SPORTS on Tuesday, own a 6-0 record to start the year but had to battle for both their wins last weekend, outlasting Guelph and Waterloo for five-set victories.
This week's schedule should provide a little relief to the stress levels when the team welcomes the 1-4 Paladins squad to Coca-Cola Court for the only game of the week.
Ryerson hasn't lost to RMC in over eight years, spanning 14 matches, and the Rams look to keep that mark in tact on Friday.
The Paladins' only win of the season came against Trent last weekend but outside of that game, RMC has only won one other set this season.
RMC has struggled to find consistency on offence and have split time between their setters in the hopes of finding a solid connection. Outside hitter Lauryne Mvuezolo leads the team with 41 kills and 3.4 points per set so far this season.
Ryerson's offence, meanwhile, has been clicking since the first serve of the season. The Rams rank in the OUA's top five in kills, assists, service aces, and hitting percentage. Combine that with their top ranked digs per set and second in total blocks numbers and you can see why they're undefeated and atop the nation's poll.
Cailin Wark (Georgetown, Ont.) has been the Rams catalyst offensively and enters Friday's match second in the OUA with 3.64 kills per set this season. Last weekend she became the sixth Ram to eclipse the 500 kills mark in her career.
First year outside hitter
Jasmine Rivest (Montreal, Que.) is coming off a career-high 20 kills performance against Waterloo and you can bet she will be looking to keep her confidence high as she gains more experience on the court this weekend.
First serve between the Rams and Paladins is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15. Ryerson students are free with their OneCard and the game will be available on OUA.tv for those not able to attend in person.
