NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams tallied their second-straight sweep of the weekend on Saturday night, taking a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-18) win over the Nipissing Lakers in their final game of the fall semester.
Ryerson's Theanna Vernon (Scarborough, Ont.) led the Rams with seven kills and three blocks, while outside hitter Brett Hagarty (Aurora) tallied 14 digs and six kills in the win.
Rookie middle blocker Kate Grasman (Komoka, Ont.) made her first OUA start against the Lakers, going on to tally four kills and three blocks.
Nipissing was neck-in-neck with Ryerson to open up the match, not letting the dominant Rams pull away with a lead of any kind.
The tables turned midway through the set as Ryerson gained control of the game. The Rams would take a 16-8 lead at the first technical, going on to win the first set 25-18.
Ryerson's Sara Piana (Ottawa, Ont.) came on in the second set, becoming one of several non-starters to play in the game. The Rams found themselves leading 16-8 again at the technical, eventually taking a hefty 25-13 win in the second set.
The Lakers put up a strong fight in the third set, limiting Ryerson's offensive chances and keeping the score close. Their efforts were not enough, though, as the Rams took another 25-18 set-win and a 3-0 match victory.
Saturday's game against Nipissing marked the team's last match before the winter break. The Rams will be back in action in January, hosting the York Lions on January 12 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
