Bold go international with Emmanuel Owonibi signing

The 2024-25 TMU men's basketball team continues to grow, announcing the signing of international big-man Emmanuel Owonibi. Owonibi hails from Kogi State, Nigeria and joins the Bold after a strong junior career at William Academy in Scarborough.

In Canadian high school basketball Owonibi was crowned William Academy athlete of the year in 2023 as well as an Ontario Scholar in the same year. Owonibi also secured MVP honours at the "Step Up to the Crown" tournament while with William Academy.

A strong team player, Owonibi brings a blue collar attitude to the blue and gold locker room.

"I am a very hardworking athlete on and off the court. I do the little things that matter most which makes me a better player day by day. I am a team player and I help to make my teammates better."

He is joined by fellow William Academy teammate and 2024 TMU recruit Landon Wright. He'll be a part of the international business program when he steps on campus in the fall, and views the opportunities both on the court and in the classroom as a perfect fit.

"I picked Toronto Metropolitan University because it's well-known in my field, has a lively campus, diverse student community, and great resources. With an amazing basketball program, top-notch academics, research chances, and supportive teachers, it's the perfect place for me to learn and grow."

Owonibi looks to play a big part in the Bold's future plans as they looked to capture OUA and national hardware when the season tips-off this fall.
