Mukama signs professional contract in Dutch top flight

TORONTO - Ryerson men's basketball alumnus Jean-Victor Mukama has signed his first European professional contract with Aris Leeuwarden of the Dutch Basketball League (DBL).

Mukama most recently featured for the Hamilton Honey Badgers in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Summer Series where he averaged 14.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in eight appearances.

When asked what the opportunity of continuing his professional career overseas means to him, Mukama expressed, "It means a lot. I'm really excited to embark on this new journey with the bonus of still getting to play the game that I love given the circumstances."

Prior to his time with the Honey Badgers, Mukama made his professional debut last year for Patriots Basketball Club in the Rwandan D1 League.

Mukama finished his five-year Rams career in the 2018-19 season where he was recognized as an OUA First-Team All-Star and U SPORTS Second-Team All-Canadian. He graduated with two OUA silvers and one OUA gold, as well as one U SPORTS silver and two bronze medals.

Touching on the impact that his time spent at Ryerson still has on him, Mukama said, "I think the overall culture of the Ryerson basketball team over my years there, really prepared me in every sense to be successful in my pro career so far and I'm forever grateful for it."

Mukama's first season in the Dutch top-flight will officially start October 3rd, 2020, although schedules are yet to be finalized in the DBL.
